YouTube for Betting Affiliates: Building a Compliant Football Channel

YouTube is one of the most natural homes for football content. Match previews, tactical breakdowns, PSL reaction videos and live streams all build the kind of loyal, adult audience that betting brands value. But promoting betting on video comes with specific rules, from on-screen warnings to platform labels. This guide to YouTube affiliate marketing for betting brands explains how to build a football channel that can carry betting promotions without putting your channel or your commission at risk.

Why YouTube suits betting affiliates

Video lets you show your knowledge rather than just claim it. Viewers who watch your analysis week after week get to know your voice and trust your judgement. That makes YouTube a good fit for revenue share, which rewards long-term audiences, although CPA and hybrid deals are also available, agreed per operator. Our YouTube creators page summarises what we offer channels like yours.

The same trust is also why the rules are strict. A presenter speaking directly to camera has more influence than a banner, and regulators treat it that way.

Set up your channel correctly

Before you add a single tracking link, get the basics in place. Under our Affiliate terms:

  • Say you are independent. Your channel must clearly say that you are an independent promoter. It must not use an operator's name, logo or brand as its own name or profile picture, or suggest that it is an operator's official channel (clause 6.3.6).
  • Put the warning in your channel description. Profiles and channels used to promote operators must show the responsible gambling warning in the bio, "about" section or a pinned post (clause 6.1.2).
  • Use YouTube's own tools. On YouTube, Reels, TikTok and live streams, you must use the platform's tools to label paid partnerships or adverts, and set age restrictions to 18+ where available (clause 6.4.4).
  • Follow YouTube's rules too. You must follow the advertising and community rules of every platform you use, including their rules on gambling content, age-gating and paid ads (clause 6.4.1). Check YouTube's current policies before you start, because they can change.
  • Get your channel approved. Any new website, page, group, channel or account you want to use needs our approval before use (clause 6.5.1).

The warning: what it must say and how long it must show

Every piece of marketing material must show a responsible gambling warning that includes at least:

  1. A statement that only people aged 18 or older may gamble lawfully, for example "18+ only".
  2. The name of the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP).
  3. The NRGP toll-free counselling number, 0800 006 008.
  4. The NRGP slogan, "Winners know when to stop".

Our terms recommend this wording: "18+ only. Winners know when to stop. National Responsible Gambling Programme: 0800 006 008 (toll-free, 24/7)."

For video, the rules on placement are specific (clause 6.1.2):

  • Video, reels and stories: the warning must be shown on screen in a legible format for at least 3 seconds (clause 6.1.2(c)). We apply the same rule to YouTube Shorts.
  • Live streams: the warning must be on screen for the whole stream.
  • Video descriptions and pinned comments: we treat these as written material, so the warning must be in a font at least as large as the main text (clause 6.1.2(a)).

A simple way to meet the live stream rule is a permanent lower-third overlay in your streaming software. For recorded videos, one option is to show the warning in the opening seconds and again next to any call to action.

Label every promotion

Every post that contains a tracking link or promotes an operator must clearly show that it is an advert, for example by including "#Ad" or "Advert" or by using the platform's paid-partnership label (clause 6.4.5). On YouTube:

  • Using YouTube Studio's Paid promotion option for any video that promotes an operator. YouTube then adds a disclosure label at the beginning of the video.
  • Adding "#Ad" or "Advert" near the top of the description, next to the tracking link.
  • As good practice, also saying it out loud when you mention a brand in the video.

Who appears on screen

You must not show a person under 18 in any gambling-related content (clause 6.4.4). That includes guests, crowd shots and clips where ages are unclear. When in doubt, leave it out.

Keep an eye on upcoming rules as well. A draft amendment to the ARB advertising code proposes that celebrities used on social and digital platforms must be, and appear to be, at least 21. The draft is not yet final, but our terms require you to follow new advertising rules from their start date, even before we update the terms (clause 6.3.14).

What to say, and what not to say

Good football content and responsible promotion fit together well. Analysis, team news, statistics and honest opinions give viewers value whether or not they ever place a bet.

What you must avoid, under our marketing code and Affiliate terms:

  • Suggesting that betting leads to financial or personal success, or that winning is likely.
  • Phrases such as "guaranteed win", "can't lose" or "easy money" (clause 6.3.3).
  • Showing or encouraging excessive gambling, chasing losses, or gambling with money needed for essentials (clause 6.3.13).
  • Presenting gambling as free or discounted as an inducement.
  • Prediction competitions with prizes, which need authorisation under the Lotteries Act and are not allowed in our programme.

Remember your comment section too. You are responsible for removing comments by others that break the terms, for example "guaranteed win" claims, as soon as you become aware of them (clause 6.4.6). If you have moderators, you are responsible for what they post.

Creatives and approval

Banners, links and creatives that we or the operator provide through your dashboard can be used without approval, as long as you do not change them (clause 6.5.2). Material you create yourself that uses an operator's name, logo, bonus or offer needs our written approval before use, and so does any paid advertising campaign (clause 6.5.1). We aim to respond within 3 business days, and no reply means no approval.

Keep a copy of every piece of marketing material you publish, with the date, channel and approval reference (clause 6.5.4). For a YouTube channel, a simple spreadsheet listing each video, its publish date and the approval reference is enough.

Put your tracking link in the description and, if you like, a pinned comment. For live streams and TV-style content, a QR code on screen lets viewers on another device reach the link; you can turn any tracking link into a QR code with our QR code tool.

Do not shorten or change tracking links yourself. Tracking failures caused by changed or shortened links are not covered (clause 3.8).

A pre-upload checklist

  1. Channel description says you are an independent promoter and includes the warning.
  2. YouTube's Paid promotion option is on, and "#Ad" or "Advert" is next to the link.
  3. The warning is on screen for at least 3 seconds (or for the whole live stream).
  4. Age restriction is set to 18+ where available.
  5. Nobody under 18 appears in the video.
  6. No promises about winning, no "guaranteed win" claims, no prize prediction competitions.
  7. Any self-made material using an operator's name, logo or offer has written approval.
  8. The tracking link is unchanged from your dashboard.

Summary

A YouTube football channel can be a strong base for betting affiliate work, as long as compliance is built into every upload: an independent-promoter channel, platform labels and age settings, a clear on-screen warning, and content that informs rather than promises. Partners who make these steps routine protect both their channel and their commission.
